SALT LAKE CITY — A University of Utah student who says he's fed up with tuition increases paid his tuition this week in $1 bills.

Luq Mughal has been paying tuition for two years with a card. But this week he took a suitcase full of singles to the Student Services Building — $2,000 in $1 bills. That's only half of his bill; the other half is paid by scholarship.

Mughal told The Daily Chronicle the cashier just took it from him and didn't count it.

Mughal called it a silent protest of sorts. He hopes in the future more students do the same thing to raise awareness of increasing costs.

Tuition at the University of Utah has more than doubled over the past 10 years.
