Randall Jeppesen reporting Bluffdale City likely will be getting a commuter rail station, whether it likes it or not, thanks to the Utah Legislature.
The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) says putting a FrontRunner stop in Bluffdale is the financially sound thing to do. But Bill Maxwell is one of three city council members who say they don't want the traffic or the train to stop in an area they're trying to preserve with an open rural feel.
"That rail stop in Bluffdale at this point just doesn't make a lot of sense," Maxwell said.
The city council denied UTA the ability to build the stop, but a bill passed in the Legislature will overrule the town.
"I understand that the Legislature gives the power to cities, and the Legislature can take that power away, and apparently that's what they've chosen to do," Maxwell said. He says he likes the idea of commuter rail, just not the Bluffdale station.
The city's last hope is that the governor vetoes the bill.
