OREM — Santa helped a man propose to his sweetheart in the University Mall Thursday.

It was a typical day for Santa at University Mall: posing for photos, trying to calm down scared little ones and having kids sit on his knee.

Santa will do his do his best on Christmas Eve. But today Santa and his helpers had their work cut out for them, because they were part of prearranged plot for a marriage proposal.

"We were nervous for him. We were nervous we could pull it off. We knew they were coming and we've been watching for them," said Amanda Eastman, one of Santa's helpers.

When Kody Fitzgerald and his girlfriend Didi Nateras finally came to talk to Santa, he called her by name and asked her what she wanted for Christmas. Her ready response was "A ring!"

Santa wasn't about to disappoint Didi this year.

"You know I've got just enough magic left in my sack, I might be able to make that happen," Santa said.

Santa gave Kody a ring box, but it was empty. That is when Kody got down on one knee.

She said "Yes!"

"I mean, I don't think I will ever forget this. This is probably the best Christmas ever," Didi said.

But Kody and Didi's engagement wasn't complete, without Santa's blessing.

"I wish you the most happiness and a happy long life for the both of you."
