MONTE CRISTO RANGE, Weber County — A 22-year-old member of the Air Force stationed at Hill Air Force Base was killed in a snowmobiling accident Sunday.

The Weber County Sheriff's Office said a group of three airmen, all Air Force members, and a civilian had been snowmobiling in the Monte Cristo Range all day. The accident happened about five miles from the snowmobile parking lot area along state Route 39 in the area of Dry Bread.

The victim rolled his snowmobile while going down a steep embankment, about 100 yards from the road, according to the sheriff's office. When the others reached the road and could not find their friend, they went back up the mountain and found he had crashed and was pinned underneath the snowmobile. The man did not have a pulse and was not breathing, deputies said.

The name of the victim was not immediately released, pending notification of family members.
