LOGAN — Four families escaped safely when a fire burned through their Logan fourplex early Thursday morning.
Logan Fire Marshal Craig Humprhreys said dispatchers received multiple calls at 12:30 a.m. to report the quick-moving fire in a multi-family unit at 430 W. 950 North.
When crews arrived they found eight adults and five children had escaped without injury. The occupants of the two apartments that received the most fire damage were awake when they saw the fire and were able to leave their homes and notify neighbors, Humphreys said.
Flames were climbing the back of the building and spreading across the attic.
"It has burned through the roof structure, through the tresses, so they will be displaced and there will need to be significant remodel done," Humphreys said.
He said the fire caused about $200,000 in damage. The cause is still under investigation.
The Red Cross was helping at least one of the families find a new place to stay.
