(KSL News) Kids can drown in a only a matter of seconds. That's what parents and children were taught today at a Safe Kids Festival in Kaysville.

Kids are drawn to water. And this event was meant to educate parents and kids about its dangers.

At swimming pools, here's what lifeguards say parents should NOT do.

Mike Stagg/Water Safety Instructor: "The biggest things that happen is parents leave their kids in the water, figure lifeguards are going to be there to watch their children."

"When there's over 300 patrons in the pool, it's hard to focus on every single one."

For kids one year old to four, swimming pools are the danger zone. For kids one and under -- it's the bathtub. And for five year olds to teenagers it's lakes, rivers and streams.

Every year, at least 10 kids in Utah die by drowning.
