RIVERTON — Friday night means it time for high school football, but for the Riverton Silver Wolves it was not only a football game, it was homecoming.
Riverton bounced back from its region loss to American Fork last week with a 31-14 victory over Lone Peak.
The Silver Wolves had two golden opportunities to score on their first two drives of the game following Lone Peak turnovers, but they came up empty-handed both times.
"We were getting the turnovers, but we just weren't capitalizing on them," Riverton coach Mike Miller said.
The third time was the charm for the Silver Wolves, however.
Following a Lone Peak interception, Riverton's Paden Cayias got the Silver Wolves on the board with a four-yard touchdown to take the 7-0 lead.
Lone Peak was down, but not out and drove down the field to score a three-yard touchdown run by Baron Gajkowski to tie the game at 7-7.
Riverton entered halftime with a 10-7 lead following a 33-yard field goal by Brock Slack.
In the second half, the Silver Wolves came out and proved that they really wanted the region win thanks in part to two rushing touchdowns by Dillon Underwood and Cayias en route to the 17-point victory.
Riverton (4-1) travels to Pleasant Grove (5-0) next week. You can follow David Winkworth on Twitter @Davito23.
