Jed Boal ReportingRobbers jump a businessman outside his hotel in Murray and get away with a valuable briefcase. Police say the victim is not just any businessman, he is an Israeli jeweler who was carrying wholesale jewels worth more than 200-thousand dollars.

Police aren't positive, but assume the robbers must have known what was in the briefcase, or they got very lucky. They won't say exactly what the jeweler was carrying, but the robbers apparently made off with valuable gems.

Police call it an unusual robbery. In the short walk from the parking lot to the door at the Crystal Inn of Murray, two robbers swiped a valuable briefcase. Police say the wholesale jeweler from Israel parked his car and headed for the motel, when two men got out of a van that had followed him into the parking lot.

Det. Rob Hall, Murray P.D.: "One of them was armed with a gun. They demanded that he turn over and surrender his briefcase. He did so."

The robbers sped off in a newer model light colored minivan, headed west on 6400 South. The jeweler was caught off guard, but not hurt.

Officer Kenny Bass, Murray Police Department: "He was still pretty shocked, when we got here, that this event had occurred."

Police won't say how much jewelry the case contained, but put the value at more than 200-thousand dollars.

Police think the robbers are driving a newer model silver Dodge caravan or Chrysler model van. They're checking with other states and agencies to see if there have been similar robberies. Right now they don't have a lot to go on.
