Paris (dpa) - Former French Open semifinalist Lindsay Davenport on Friday withdrew from Rolland Garros due to a lingering back injury.
The 29-year-old American world number 7, who last played at Indian Wells in March, has suffered with the problem for months.
"I haven't recovered the full fitness that would allow me to compete to the best of my ability," she said in a statement. "I'm working hard to get back on the circuit as quickly as possible."
The former world number 1 is replaced in the Paris draw by Ukraine's Yuliana Fedak.
On the men's side, American Taylor Dent also pulled out, although he is reportedly back on court training after minor back surgery.
The French Open begins on May 28.
