This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

With every new idea that hits the market, sometimes, unseen problems occur. Take video and computer games — they use some of the coolest technologies on the planet, mesmerizing kids for hours... The unseen problem? Kids aren't outside playing as much as they did in previous generations..... Result? The American Heart Association reports that almost 24 percent of children age 2 to 19 are overweight or obese. The obesity epidemic continues to be an important health trend to watch, mainly because childhood obesity has more than tripled in the last 30 years....That's why programs like The Little Gym are so critical...

Owner Braeden Smith says The Little Gym is a motor-skill development program for kids, teaching physical, emotional, social and perceptual skills. The program has three dimensions — the first, Brain Boost, is how kids develop their minds.... Next, Solid Citizen is for social and emotional development while the third, Get Moving is the physical part where kids tumble, do cartwheels, walk on the beam and enjoy other gymnastic-related activities...

The Little Gym serves children ages four months to 12 years...Braeden says it's a lot of fun, and it's amazing to watch what it does for kids. He sees success stories every day. In fact, Braeden has seen this program personally work with his own kids, now 11 and 8.

Braden's Little Gym franchise operation has been around for seven years, and in January, the business moved from Sandy to their brand new location on South Highland Drive in Cottonwood Heights ... Robin West, a gymnast, musician and educator, founded The Little Gym as a business in 1976, starting in Bellevue, Washington. He realized many activities tend to weed out all but the most talented kids. So, he wanted to create a program to build all kids' confidence, and that was his vision for The Little Gym.

There are now around 200 Little Gym franchises internationally.
