WEST POINT, Utah (AP) -- The Davis County School Board is planning for the future.

Board members have approved a $1.5 million purchase of a 30-acre plot of West Point land to be used for a future high school.

Assistant Superintendent Bruce Williams says the school probably won't be needed for 10 or 15 years but the district is trying to look ahead. Rapid population growth and development means property to build on could become scarce.

A property committee meets weekly to consider future school needs and look for land.

Also in the district's reserve: 10 and 12 acre parcels set aside for elementary schools in North Salt Lake, 25 acres in Layton for a junior high and 48 acres in west Farmington for a new high school.
