(KSL New) Utah's Catholic community celebrated Ash Wednesday today.
During the celebration, church officials mark worshipers' foreheads with ash in the shape of a cross. The marking will typically be left on until after sundown, signifying repentance before God.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a period of 40 days in which many Christian denominations fast and pray before Easter.
