Marc Giauque and KSL News reporting A full autopsy and investigation by several different agencies have concluded that an inmate who died at the Box Elder County Jail committed suicide.
According the report from the state Office of the Medical Examiner, 26-year-old Chad Peterson died in his jail cell in November by self strangulation.
Box Elder County Sheriff Lynn Yeates said, "We didn't feel there was any shadow over the jail. Our people did our job, and anytime you have someone in a secure facility that dies, obviously we expect an investigation."
At the time of his death, Peterson's family heard reports from inmates that Peterson was possibly beaten by guards, and they accused the jail of negligence.
The report also concluded there was no evidence of improper or criminal behavior associated with Peterson's death.
