AMERICAN FORK — Chimes fill the air every hour, at the American Fork Presbyterian Church, but earlier this week, the sound of hammers and chisels was music to the ears of Ruth Teuscher.

"We moved to American fork in 1946 and the first thing we did was seek out a protestant church, and this was it," she said.

At age 93, she's watching improvements to the church she has attended for 67 years — new stained glass windows.

Each of the four windows is a scene of the life of Christ.

Debra Maughn, an elder of the congregation, has led a committee that for years has been working to replace the existing windows with images of the New Testament.

The first window was this centerpiece, installed a couple of years ago. It was designed by Tom Holdman, whose work is found in LDS temples around the world. His studio created four smaller windows to grace the historic Presbyterian church, built in 1881.

"We've got four in, we need four more," Maughn said. "We are working on raising funds for them, but they are expensive."

During the service this morning, Maughn and others couldn't help but keep looking at the new windows.

"Those lovely medallions just take what is already in your heart and always has been and put it up there where you see it with your eyes, and it makes me cry," Teuscher said.
