SALT LAKE CITY — The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is partnering with three very diverse artists for two concerts this summer.

Five-time Grammy Award-winning artist James Taylor will perform with the choir and the Utah Symphony for the 30th anniversary of the Tanner Gift of Music concert series. It's planned for Sept. 6 - 7 in the Conference Center.

This year's Pioneer Day concert will feature up-and-coming Latter-day Saint artists Lindsey Stirling and Nathan Pacheco performing with the choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.

That concert takes place Friday and Saturday, July 19 - 20, at 8 p.m. in the Conference Center.

Because of high demand for tickets, they will be distributed through a random selection process.

Those interested may register on the Internet at lds.org/events for the opportunity to receive tickets from Saturday, July 27 at 12:01 a.m. through Monday, Aug. 5, at 11:59 p.m.

Those without Internet access may register over the phone at 801-570-0080 (local) or at 1-866-537-8457.

"Between Lindsey, Nathan and James, we truly have something for everyone this summer and continue to cross generational and cultural boundaries with the choir's music," choir president Ron Jarrett said in a news release.

"The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is so enthused to be able to perform with such a talented group of artists representing a wonderful breadth of musical genres, from hip hop to opera to pop," he continued.

About the performers

  • James Taylor was chosen for the Tanner Gift of Music anniversary concert because of his broad appeal across many generations and music styles. His songwriting and performing career has spanned four decades, with close to 100 million albums sold and five Grammy Awards. In 2011 he was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President Obama, and in 2012 he received the distinguished Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government.

Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis starting on Tuesday, June 11, at lds.org/events, by calling 801-570-0080 or at the Conference Center ticket office.

Admission is limited to ages 8 and older.

  1. Lindsey Stirling is a classically-trained violinist who is famous for combining the violin with hip hop, all while dancing. In 2010 she was a quarterfinalist on NBC's "America's Got Talent." Her YouTube channel has nearly 2.5 million subscribers and more than 300 million views. Stirling recently finished a 55-city tour of Europe, Canada and the U.S. and released an album last year. "I have always loved the Mormon Tabernacle Choir," she said.
  2. Tenor Nathan Pacheco is described "a versatile vocalist, performing both pop and opera with a rare combination of power and grace." In 2009 he was a featured performer with pianist and composer Yanni on the "Voices" tour. In 2012, he joined Katherine Jenkins on her tour with the London Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed for Prince Charles at the British Embassy in Washington, D.C.; on two PBS television specials; and in the ABC/Disney Parks Christmas Parade. "It goes without saying that to be able to sing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, directed by Mack Wilberg, is an experience I'm quite certain I'll never forget. I can't wait," he said.
