PROVO CANYON — Search and rescue crews worked late into the night Wednesday to recover the body of a man who fell to his death at Bridal Veil Falls.

Police received a report of the fall just after 8 p.m., Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said. The couple who made the call told dispatchers they were sightseeing along a nearby road and saw the man fall.

They said they didn't feel comfortable hiking up to the man because he was in an area that appeared to have unsafe terrain, Cannon said.

When rescue crews reached the man, they found him "beyond help," Cannon said. Investigators believe he fell anywhere from 160 to 180 feet.

Investigators haven't been able to identify the man but believe he is about 40 to 50 years old. As of 10:30 p.m., rescuers were still working to get his body off the mountain.

Cannon said investigators were also checking cars in the area to see if one might belong to him. So far, they've had no luck.
