WEST VALLEY CITY — An accident Thursday morning in West Valley left one driver dead and sent another to the hospital in critical condition.

Erin Fritz, 28, was driving a Hyundai Accent west on 3900 South at about 1100 West when it crossed the center line and hit a Dodge Caravan head on.

Police are still investigating what caused the driver to veer into oncoming traffic. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to have been involved.

"We would suspect that some kind of distracted driving or other factor played into this accident," said Sgt. Jason Houer with the West Valley Police Department.

Fritz died on scene, according to police. Paramedics took the driver of the Dodge, an adult male, to the hospital in critical condition.
