This week I have some good news for all those food lovers who keep asking me "whatever happened to Dave Jones?" In case you don't remember, Dave Jones was the longtime chef at Log Haven restaurant up in Millcreek Canyon. And during his time there as well as in acclaimed restaurants in California, Jones acquired quite a loyal following of foodies for his sophisticated, yet accessible style of cooking.
Well, you can't keep a great chef out of the kitchen for long, and after taking some time off from behind the stove Chef Jones has returned to the fray as the new Executive Chef at Bambara restaurant, in the Hotel Monaco downtown. Dave Jones has always cleverly blended Asian and Southwestern flavors in his cooking and his new Bambara menu is filled with what he calls a "World of Flavors" approach.
Some of the highlights from the new Bambara menu - unveiled just this week - include dishes like cedar-planked organic salmon with poblano chili sauce; pan-seared scallops with Chinese long beans and Meyer Lemon; a curry-crusted lamb T-bone; and tuna tartare served with avocado-Thai chili and yuzu-ponzu sauce.
Now not everything on the Bambara menu has changed with Chef Jones' arrival however. Bambara still features those bodacious blue cheese house-made potato chips and their perfect polenta-crusted calamari, for example. But with Dave Jones breathing new life into Bambara, well, it's like having a brand new restaurant to enjoy. So welcome back, Dave!
