SANDY — Residents in a Sandy neighborhood awoke Sunday to find explicit messages spray painted on the outside of their vehicles.

The vandal or vandals used the names of specific kids that attend Alta High School as they defaced over a dozen cars in the area of 11400 South between 700 and 1000East.

Eric Delgado's son was one of the apparent targets of the vandalism. His wife noticed the graffiti first. Three of his vehicles, including his work truck became a canvas for a vandal with spray paint.

"I just think it was an upset teenager," he said. "If that's the case, you know how kids are, they don't think."

Delgado wasn't the only victim. Police said that in addition to the cars a couple of street signs were spray painted.

"The vandalism went anywhere from just making generic graffiti marks on vehicles to specifically naming people, as well as using foul language," said Sgt. Jon Arnold with Sandy police."

Like Delgado, many of the neighbors who were targeted have kids that go to Alta High School. Police said it's possible the vandal is another student but it's obvious that person is familiar with the victims.

Most victims had the spray paint cleaned up quickly in the morning.

'I just sprayed WD40 and some towels and rags and put some elbow grease on it," Delgado said.

Still, he hopes police find the vandal so he can press charges.

"We work hard for (our vehicles) and stuff and we consider this a really normal, nice, safe neighborhood," he said.

Police asked for anyone who was vandalized to report the case quickly. If the total damage exceeds $1500, the crime could be considered a felony.

The Alta High resource officer will follow up on the case Monday.
