CEDAR CITY —One person was trapped in an SUV and taken to the hospital in very critical condition following a crash near Cedar City.

A Ford Excursion hauling a trailer was traveling southbound on I-15 south of Cedar City by New Harmony Thursday afternoon when the trailer begin whipping back and forth for unknown reasons, Utah Highway Patrol reported.

The male driver lost control of the vehicle, and the car left the roadway to the right, rolling over, causing the roof to cave in on the man.

The man was flown via medical helicopter to a Las Vegas hospital with a serious head injury. UHP reported he was in very critical condition.

The six other occupants, believed to be a woman and children, were taken to a Cedar City hospital with cuts and bruises.

All of the occupants were wearing seatbelts or restrained in car seats.

The crash temporarily closed the right lane and on and off ramps of southbound I-15 in Cedar City, but the roadways have since been reopened.
