(KSL News) Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson will officially hand over the reins Monday to Mayor-elect Ralph Becker.

Becker is a professional planner and environmental lawyer. He's pledged to make the city more green, clean up the Jordan River Parkway, create a registry for domestic partnerships, launch a downtown cultural district and create "neighborhood commercial centers."

Becker will unveil all the details of his plans Jan. 15 in his first State of the City address.

But first, he'll take his mayoral oath on the steps of the City Hall Monday at noon. That will be followed by a reception at 1:30 p.m. and a tree-planting ceremony at 2:30 p.m. The public is then invited to meet its new mayor between 3:30 and 4:30.

So what will Mayor Rocky Anderson spend his time on now? First he was a lawyer and activist, then he was elected mayor. Now, after eight years in office, Mayor Anderson is looking to the future.

The Deseret Morning News reports Anderson is ready to start work on his start-up nonprofit organization, HumanKind Education Fund Incorporated. It will focus on the education and advocacy of human rights, as well as climate change.

Anderson says he also plans to stay in Salt Lake City unless the air quality gets worse.
