SANDY — Thursday, 16 couples boarded a Ferris wheel engaged and returned married.
Couples from across the Wasatch Front were married en masse on the Ferris wheel at Scheels sporting goods store on Valentine's Day.
Murray Mayor Dan Snarr officiated the vows to each couple, who exchanged rings in their seats on the ride.
Kirt and Janna Williams got engaged on Christmas, and they hadn't planned anything before entering the competition after Kirt's mother recommended they do so.
Their nuptial experience was one to remember.
"(It was) nerve wracking, scared to death," Kirt said. "There's a lot of people here. And that's really high."
Another couple, James and Angela Parks, had planned on having their wedding in a church, but this opportunity was too good to pass up.
"I thought I would enter it on a whim, didn't expect to win, and here we are," James said. "We was gonna have a big wedding in a church."
The event was sponsored by KBULL 93 and Scheels.
