State tournaments are fast approaching and region races and tournament seeding is starting to take shape.
In 5A, No. 1 Lone Peak can wrap up the Region 4 title this week with wins over Pleasant Grove and American Fork.
No. 2 Davis leads Region 1 by a game over No. 5 Weber and Northridge. Weber can move into a tie with Davis with a win on their home court Tuesday night.
No. 3 Brighton and No. 4 Jordan are tied for 1st in Region 3 with 5-1 records. That tie will be broken when the Beetdiggers host the Bengals on Tuesday night.
There are no ranked teams in Region 2 where Hunter has taken control of the region title race. The Wolverines have a two game lead over Viewmont and Kearns.
First place will be on the line Friday night in Region 8 when No. 1 Timpview and No. 2 Orem battle again. Timpview upset Orem on January 15 when Leo Roese beat the buzzer with the game-winning basket.
No. 3 Bountiful protected their home court Friday holding off Highland. They now have a game lead over the Rams in Region 6.
Mountain Crest is No. 4 in the latest 4A poll and are 6-0 in a very deep Region 5. They hold a one game lead over Roy who they visit on Friday.
Olympus is ranked 5th again this week in 4A and currently have a two game lead in Region 7 over Murray and Herriman.
The 3A State tournament begins with first round action on February 15. No. 1 Morgan has clinched the outright Region 11 title, a No. 1 seed, and currently have a 13-game winning streak.
No. 2 Spanish Fork leads Payson by one game in Region 12. If both teams win on Tuesday and Wednesday, they will play Friday with a Region title on the line.
No. 3 Judge needs a win Tuesday over Wasatch to claim the outright Region 10 title.
The biggest drama this week in 3A lies with the Region 9 race. No. 4 Snow Canyon leads No. 5 Cedar by one game and Desert Hills by two games. The Warriors control their own destiny and can win the outright region title with wins over Cedar Wednesday and Desert Hills Friday. If Cedar wins Wednesday they sweep the season series with Snow Canyon and move into a first place tie. Desert Hills needs Snow Canyon to lose Wednesday, then beat Snow Canyon on Friday and have Cedar lose one of their two remaining games.
The 2A State tournament will begin Saturday, February 16. No. 1 Wasatch Academy has clinched a Region 16 title and No. 2 South Sevier has already won Region 15. The other two regions are still up for grabs.
Parowan and Enterprise lead Region 13 with 4-2 records and they wrap up the regular season with a meeting on Friday.
Summit Academy leads South Summit by a half game in Region 14.
Richfield is ranked No. 3 this week followed by Emery at No. 4 and Manti No. 5.
In 1A, No. 1 Bryce Valley and No. 2 Panguitch will meet Tuesday night with a Region 20 championship on the line.
Defending champion and No. 3 ranked Layton Christian leads Region 17 by two games.
No. 4 Rich leads Tabiona and No. 5 Duchesne by a game in Region 21.
Monticello dropped out of the top five this week after a loss to Duchesne but they still lead Region 19 by two games.
The 1A State Tournament begins Wednesday, February 27 at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
