SALT LAKE CITY — Eli Manning won't be in this year's Super Bowl, but Eli the Orangutan hopes to factor in the outcome of the big game.
Elijah the Orangutan has a perfect track record in predicting the Super Bowl winner, the zoo said. This will be his sixth prediction.
Utah's Hogle Zoo's Eli predicted that the Baltimore Ravens will defeat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII in this year's Primate Pick.
"I know some of you 49ers fans out there might not be too happy about this, but he did pick the Baltimore Ravens pretty decisively," said Lindsay Renner, primate keeper at Utah's Hogle Zoo.
The Orangutan chose the team by knocking over a papier mache box with the team's logo on it. Renner said the boxes are a typical part of the zoo animals' environment.
"It's called 'enrichment' and all the animals in the zoo get it. It's just something to change up their environment a little bit," Renner said. "Sometimes we hide food so they have to work for their food a little bit more or give them something to do throughout the day."
The Super Bowl will take place in New Orleans, LA at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday, Feb. 3.
