SALT LAKE CITY -- The cold, ice and snow across northern Utah aren't just making life miserable for commuters; severe weather is having a big impact on birds that winter along the shores of the Great Salt Lake, too.
Rich Hansen, who manages the Farmington Bay waterfowl management area says photographers and bird watchers have been finding dead owls. The owls are starving because they can't find food.
The die-off can be off-putting to visitors, but Hansen says it's part of nature. He adds that other animals, including bigger birds like bald eagles, are able to survive by feeding on the carcasses.
