PHILADELPHIA — Letters from a 10-year-old Pennsylvania boy to his local cat rescue have gone viral after the rescue posted his story of goodwill to Facebook.
Evan started sending letters to City Kitties, a no-kill cat rescue in West Philadelphia, in 2009, when he was 7 years old. In his first letter, he told the shelter his cat had come from City Kitties, and made a $46.75 donation.
"Thank you for letting me get my new cat," he said. "I get an allowance every week and I chose to make a donation to you. I love that you help cats find homes. I saved this money to help you help cats."
In 2010, Evan sold figs from his family's tree to raise money for the rescue. He donated $86.
He donated $97 in 2011, this time from saving up allowance money.
"I am so happy that people like you are around to save abandoned kitties from danger!" he said. "I want to help you do that and I hope other people will help, too!"
In 2012, Evan had a record year. He saved $110, which his parents matched for a total donation of $220. It was Evan's three-digit donation, which he noted in the letter.
"When I was 1 digit years old, I donated a two-digit dollar amount," he said. "Now that I'm 2 digits years old, I donated a three-digit dollar amount. I will keep donating to help save abandoned kittens from danger."
"P.S. do you like my cursive?" he asked. The letter was his first written in script.
