We already know that there’s no shortage of weird and wacky web sites out there in cyberspace. But with a little too much time on my hands recently, I came across some truly weird web sites that are all about food. Here are a handful of my favorites.
Vegetablecruelty.com is the internet home of the Vegetable Rights Militant Movement with all sorts disturbing and graphic images of strange things being done to helpless vegetables – like the pictures of Chinese broccoli torture and a sticky mess of pulverized cilantro. But maybe the strangest thing about vegetablecruelty.com is that I can’t for the life of me figure out if it’s serious or not!
Ever been temped to pop a hornet into your mouth? If so, then Zack’s Bug-Feasting Page on the web is for you. At Zack’s Bug-Feasting Page I even learned which bug is best for those tight family food budgets. It turns out that the Chinese silkworm can be had for as little as 3 bucks per pound, about the same price as hamburger! And I hear silkworms are terrific with grub sauce.
At the messygourmet.com web site you can find out how to get stuff like Hershey chocolate bar stains out of white jeans. And over on the Planet Ketchup web site I learned more than I ever wanted to know about ketchup, including that Baskin Robbins actually once tried selling ketchup flavored ice cream. Now that’s weird!
