LOGAN — Our guest tester this week is Briana Bodily, Utah State Journalism Student. She drove the borrowed Toyota Yaris on a beautiful fall evening and a lent Nissan Versa on a crummy fall evening.

The Versa's Continuously Variable Transmission means it doesn't search for gears, and can do whatever it needs with RPMs getting up hills, and we got 40 mpg per the computer. The Yaris had a four-speed auto. Engine size is very close, so is power. Versa wins in space, fuel economy, and price, with special prices for college grads. Yaris wins in number of airbags, though.

Other stats:

Power

Yaris 106hp, 103 pound-feet of torque

Versa 109hp, 107 pound-feet of torque

Buying

Nissan's Grad Program gives a discount to persons who are graduating in the next six months, or who have in the past two years.

The Versa is the best-selling sub-compact in the United States, outselling the Yaris approximately 3 to 1.
