(KSL News) Volunteers and children helped deck the halls and cages of the Salt Lake County animal shelter today.

The puppy and dog kennels were adorned with stockings and wreaths, and cat toys were attached to every kitty cage.

Salt Lake County Animal Services is hoping people will donate items like blankets, towels and pet food.

Temma Martin, with Salt Lake County Animal Services, said, "The number one thing on all of our animals' wish list is a forever, loving home."

Animal services says if you're thinking about giving a pet as a gift, give your loved one a gift certificate so they can pick the animal that's right for them.
