(KSL News) The Downtown Alliance unveiled its plans today for an arts and cultural district just south of the City Creek Center

Planners believe the district will be a great fit for the vision of Downtown Rising. The historic Utah Theater will see new life as a film center featuring limited release productions.

The district will feature a new 2,400 seat Performing Arts Theater that will be a primary venue for Broadway touring shows and large local performances.

Local artists will have new gallery space on Main Street.

Planners also have proposed to enhance the Capitol Theatre with an expanded lobby and new space for the Ballet West academy.

The Downtown Alliance hopes to have all of these changes completed by the time the City Creek Center opens in 2011.
