COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Police were looking Friday for a man who burglarized several businesses in Cottonwood Heights and West Valley City over the past few weeks.
The latest incident happened Wednesday night. Someone broke into Kmp Staffing, 7938 S. 3500 East. Once inside, the intruder broke into the adjacent business, American Income Life, through another door, said Cottonwood Heights Police Sgt. Mark Askerlund.
Between the two businesses, the burglar got away with three laptops, a couple of computer monitors and other computer equipment, and a wallet that was left in someone's desk, he said.
Soon after those burglaries, the credit card inside the wallet was used at a South Jordan Smith's Food and Drug Center to buy numerous gift cards, Askerlund said.
Based on surveillance video from the Smith's, detectives believe they're looking for a white man in his mid to late 20s with blondish hair and a thin goatee. He was last seen weart a white T-shirt, jeans and a brown baseball cap.
The man is also believed to be driving a newer model black Dodge Caravan. It's the same vehicle description as the one allegedly used in several other recent business burglaries in West Valley City, Askerlund said.
Anyone with information on the burglaries can call police at 801-840-4000.
