CASTLE DALE — Search teams from Emery and Sanpete counties had to use a helicopter to recover the body of an Emery County elk hunter from a remote canyon.

The search for Ken Moosman, of Clawson, began Monday after Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk received a report that the man had not been heard from in two days, according to sheriff's Capt. Kyle Ekker.

Moosman's body was found about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in a rugged part of Shoo Fly Canyon, north of Joe's Valley, Ekker said. The man's horse was found about 300 feet away.

Moosman, 64, had been hunting alone. Investigators believe he suffered fatal injuries when he was thrown from his horse, Ekker said.

A state Department of Public Safety helicopter was called in to recover Moosman's body.
