SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands of people will gather downtown this weekend for sessions of the 182 Semi-annual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

More than 100,000 people are expected Saturday and Sunday at the Conference Center and Temple Square.

General sessions of conference will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, with a priesthood session for male church members on Saturday at 6 p.m. Tickets are required for all sessions. Doors open 90 minutes early and attendees are encouraged to be in their seats 30 minutes before the session start time.

Temple square offers historical context

But many conference-goers will also visit the historical church exhibits at the Church History Library that focus on its treasured collections.

"It's either some of the things they have collected as church historians or information about those historians since then," said Christine Cox of the Church History Library.

Many pieces are rare, like a sample of the LDS Church's first prophet, Joseph Smith Jr.'s handwriting, old audio/visual materials, including wax cylinders and recording wire. They also have motion pictures of early prophets of the church, including some of Joseph F. Smith, Heber J. Grant, George Albert Smith and David O. McKay.
