SALT LAKE CITY — Search crews confirmed Thursday that the body recovered from Lake Powell is that of a Salt Lake City man who drowned while swimming on Sept. 21.
The body of Pejman Pourhassan, 40, was retrieved from a depth of 100 feet, according to a press release. Crews employed a remote operated vehicle equipped with sonar and video to search a 3 ½-square mile area where Pourhassan was last seen.
Pourhassan had been swimming in Gunsight Bay when he attempted to swim from a wakeboard boat to a house boat, according to the release. He began to call for help and disappeared beneath the water.
A Utah Highway Patrol dive team, U.S. Coast Guard auxiliary services and the Kane County Sheriff's Office assisted in the 13-day search.
Todd Brindle, superintendent of the Glen Canyon National Recreation area, applauded the efforts of the recovery team.
“We appreciate the hard work and effort of everyone who helped with this recovery. The days were long and difficult, but all of the responders were working to help the family,” he said.
