WEST VALLEY CITY — Following the Los Angeles Kings' Stanley Cup victory, teammate and Salt Lake hometown boy decided to bring the cup to Utah.
Kings' Trevor Lewis, from Salt Lake City, brought the Stanley Cup he helped win his team to Utah in the first non-ceremonial trip ever. At the Maverick Center, where the cup was displayed and Lewis signed autographs, hockey fans lined up.
"It's unbelievable how much support I'm getting and hopefully it grows the game here and we can get more people to win it from here," Lewis said of the turnout.
Lewis seems to have hit on something that resonates with others in the hockey community, too, like the broadcasting director for the Utah Grizzlies.
"We're just so grateful that Trevor took the chance and the opportunity to bring the cup here to Maverick Center for three hours. He gets it for 24 hours, he can do whatever he wants with it," said director Adrian Denny. "He chose to share it with the hockey community. He really wanted to do that: give something back to youth hockey in Utah, and that's what we're all about here."
Lewis' engagement at the Maverick Center was three hours of his 24, but he will spend another bit of time at Thursday's University of Utah football game, where Chopper 5 will transport him to the stadium for the halftime celebration.
