WEST JORDAN — Two toddlers fell out of windows in separate incidents in Salt Lake County Thursday within 30 minutes of each other.

A 2-year-old boy was in critical condition after falling 20 feet out of an apartment window just before 1:30 p.m. at the Woodgate Apartments.

The toddler some how fell through a window screen*, according to a West Jordan Fire Department spokesman. He was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center.

Neighbor, Gage Fitzwater, drove by and witnessed the boy fall. "His head hit a window well on the bottom floor and ricocheted, and his body flipped back around and slammed against the cement," he said. Fitzwater didn't see any adults come out of the apartment unit.

Similarly, a 3-year-old boy fell through a screen and out of a second story window just after 1 p.m. near 3000 S. 7000 West. He was taken by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.

Fire Chief Marc McElreath reminds the public that this can happen to anyone. "Secure your windows and screens in homes with small toddlers to make sure they cannot get access to those windows and push the screens out," he said.
