SALT LAKE CITY — Below are some events happening throughout Utah this week that you may want to check out.

Salt Lake Valley

  • Daily: Quilt History Fair at This is the Place Heritage Park, 2601 E. Sunnyside Ave., SLC. Runs 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
  • Aug. 12–18: Shark Week activities at the Living Planet Aquarium, 725 E. 10600 S., Sandy. More details here.
  • Aug. 14: Downtown Farmers Market at Pioneer Park, 4 p.m.–6 p.m.
  • Aug. 15–18: Romeo & Juliet performed at the Murray Theater, by the New World Shakespeare Company. 7:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m.; doors open at 7 p.m.
  • Aug. 16: Twilight Concert Series: Iron & Wine and Kathleen Edwards. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online or in person. Gates open at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Park.
  • Aug. 17: TURN City Center for the Arts gallery stroll, 511 W. 200 South, Suite 120. Free admission, 6 p.m.–9 p.m. Original works and works inspired by M.C. Escher and poetry inspired by Robert Frost.
  • Aug. 17: Spy Hop Street Party at 511 W. 200 South, Suite 100, SLC. Free admission. See street art and youth-produced game design, movies and music.

  1. Aug. 18: Oktoberfest begins at Snowbird Resort. Admission is free; event runs Saturdays and Sundays, noon to 6 p.m.
  2. Aug. 18: 18th Annual Kruisers for Kids Charity Car Show benefiting Shriners Hospital for Children, Midvale City Park, 7500 S. 455 W., 9 a.m.–4 p.m. More information here.
  3. Aug. 18: Rock 'N' Ribs at the Gallivan Center, 4 p.m.–10 p.m. Free admission; $3 sample plates. More information here.

  • Daily: Beauty and Belief — Islamic Art exhibit at the BYU Museum of Art. Admission is free.
  • Aug. 13: Family Night on the Farm. Activities include craft projects and visiting animals. Event runs 5 p.m.–7 p.m. at Thanksgiving Point.
  • Aug. 14: Karaoke night with Mike Streeter at Deer Hunter Pub, 200 N. 300 W., Spanish Fork. Begins at 9 p.m.
  • Aug. 15: Open Mic Night at Muse Music, 151 N. University Ave., Provo. $1 admission.
  • Aug. 15–18: Utah County Fair, Spanish Fork Fairgrounds, 475 S. Main Street.

Northern Utah

Central/Southern Utah

  • Aug. 15, 16: Natural Bridges Astronomy Program at Natural Bridges National Monument, Lake Powell. A ranger-led astronomy program begins at dusk.
  • Aug. 16: Elvis Returns to Cedar City, Frontier Homestead State Park Museum, 635 N. Main Street. Elvis tribute artist Matt Piper will perform and fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches will be served. Admission is free. Show begins at 7 p.m.
