Cleon Wall, KSL Newsradio Parents and students at five Davis County Schools will get a lesson in Chinese today, and if all goes well it could lead to more Chinese-speaking students.
Davis School District members hope a simple lesson from a Chinese educator will go a long way to expanding their foreign language program.
"She's going to teach basic Chinese pronunciation, how to write Chinese characters; they'll play games," district supervisor Bonnie Flint explained.
Flint says they teach Chinese in three junior highs, but now they want to expand and add two Chinese instructors. They'll need money, though.
"We are going to try to get some of those legislative monies to bring in a teacher to support the program," Flint said.
That will happen only if requirements to start a Chinese program change here in the state.
