SALT LAKE CITY — Construction of the Tijuana México Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will begin with a groundbreaking ceremony next month.
According to a news release at saladeprensamormona.org, the México Area Presidency announced the ceremony will take place Saturday, Aug. 18, and will be broadcast via satellite to stake centers in the temple district.
Church President Thomas S. Monson announced the temple in October 2010.
The church currently has 12 temples in Mexico and 152 worldwide, either operating, under construction, or announced.
Mormon ranks in Florida growing, diversified
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is growing dramatically and is increasingly diversified in South Florida, according to the Sun Sentinel.
An article re-posted in the Deseret News says there are about 12,150 members in southeast Florida's three stakes, which includes 27 wards. The president of the Fort Lauderdale Florida Mission, Donald Anderson, told the Sentinel there have been 440 baptisms so far this year versus 250 in the first half of 2011.
"The further we go in South Florida, the more diverse the congregations become," he said. "They've made the church a wonderful melting pot."
