WASATCH COMMUNITY GARDENS PRESENTS: DOWNTOWN TOUR DE COOPS: THE COOLEST CHICKEN DIGS IN THE CITY!

DATE: Saturday, June 30th

WHO: Wasatch Community Gardens, Squatters Restaurant, and urban chicken enthusiasts across Salt Lake City

WHAT: A day to celebrate the hottest trend in sustainability: urban chicken-keeping! The day includes a local egg brunch and a self-guided tour of the most unique chicken coops in Salt Lake City.

WHEN and WHERE: Early Bird Brunch - June 30th, 9-11am Squatters Restaurant and Pub 147 W Broadway Delicious egg brunch at Squatters using all local ingredients. A great place to fuel up before taking the downtown tour! $15, Registration required. Space is limited. Proceeds benefit WCG's community-based programs.

7th Annual Downtown Tours de Coops: Individuals and families on a self-guided tour of 17 of the most beautiful and unique chicken coops and gardens in the city. A chance to see the most dedicated urban homesteaders in the Salt Lake Valley. Over 30 different breeds of chickens, a few turkeys and ducks as well. 500-600 people expected. Printed guides will also be available at Squatter's the morning of the tour.

ADDITIONAL CHICKEN WEEK INFORMATION: In recognition of another form of food sustainability and urban farming, Wasatch Community Gardens is happy to again celebrate our feathered friends with a full week of chicken activities. Throughout the week, our goal is: To educate the public about everything related to urban chicken-keeping; To inspire people to keep their own chickens and fowl as they tour the unique coops on the two Tours de Coops; To spotlight delicious local eggs at the Early Bird Brunch at Squatters while raising important funds for our programs.

ABOUT WASATCH COMMUNITY GARDENS: Wasatch Community Gardens has provided the community the opportunity to grow their own food in urban gardens for over twenty years. Our mission is to empower people of all ages and incomes to grow and eat healthy, organic, local food.

Today, Wasatch Community Gardens offers a range of programs for Wasatch Front residents including community gardening space, youth gardening education programs including summer camps, consulting help for groups to start new community gardens, numerous volunteer opportunities, and over 50 educational workshops and community events.
