CLEARFIELD — The Davis district is trying something this week they hope can expand in years to come. It's language camp, where kids are immersed in one language and culture every day.
Spanish teachers are acting out a story. Down the hall, French teachers sing with their students.
Bonnie Flint helped arrange it all. "They are doing fiestas, trips to the zoo, cooking, speaking interactively, playing soccer, doing videos. So it's really hands on and completely in the language."
Flint is the secondary world languages supervisor for the Davis District, but students from Ogden and Salt Lake are here as well. It's an opportunity for those ten years old and up to be immersed in a language, like the elementary school students get in the immersion schools. Next year they hope to have more weeks of camp, and even Chinese and German.
"Next year, if it is successful, we would love to build it up to include more students, and perhaps even offer it for more weeks," Flint said.
