HERRIMAN — Officials have removed a horse from its owner's basement after more than three hours of efforts Sunday evening.
The horse, a rare Egyptian Arabian named Emire Idn Farzdak a.k.a., "Himself," fell into the window well of his owner's house. Unified Police Department and Animal Control arrived on scene around 6 p.m., and as they attempted to remove him from the window well, Himself fell through the window and into the basement. He received some cuts and scrapes.
After a failed attempt at guiding the horse up the stairs, an on-scene veterinarian tranquilized the horse. The Heavy Rescue Unit dug a trench, removed the window well and window frame, and built a haul system and wood shoring to aid in removing the horse. He was removed from the house just before 9:30 p.m.
The owner, Samantha Winburn, is very proud of the horse's heritage, as his sire was raised in Egypt, and Himself has descendants in Kuwait.
"He's a very special horse," she said.
She describes the horse as gentle and smart, as well as protective.
