MIDWAY — A driver was arrested Sunday after police say he caused serious injuries to a motorcyclist during a road rage confrontation near Midway.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to a crash on U.S. 189 about 3:20 p.m.

"Witnesses stated that another vehicle caused a motorcycle to crash and left the scene of the accident," a police booking affidavit states. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Weston Andrew Warden, was located by police in Midway.

"While speaking with Warden, he informed us that the motorcyclist rode up behind him and flipped him off. Warden then said that the motorcycle passed him, brake-checked him, and then flipped him off again. Warden then stated that he passed the motorcycle and then hit his brakes before the motorcycle crashed," the affidavit states.

Witnesses to the crash told troopers that Warden "brake-checked" the motorcycle, which caused the crash.

"The witnesses also said that Warden slowed following the crash before fleeing the scene," the affidavit alleges.

The motorcyclist "suffered serious bodily injury" and was taken to a local hospital. Additional information about the rider was not immediately available.

Warden was booked into the Wasatch County Jail and charged Monday in 4th District Court with failing to remain at the scene of an accident involving serious injury, a third-degree felony; and reckless driving, a class A misdemeanor. The reckless driving charge comes with a road rage penalty enhancement if convicted.
