WEST VALLEY CITY — Utah race fans turned out in full force to see the Maverik Modifieds Double Main at Rocky Mountain Raceways, an ASA Member Track.
The Maverik Modifieds kicked off the night of racing with a fifty-lap main event. #50 Roger Wilson and #01 Michael Hale battled for first; Wilson took the win after beating Hale on an outside restart in lap forty-five. Hale came in second, #4 Lynn Hardy came in third, #84 Mark Ith Jr. in fourth and #00 Tyler Whetstone rounded out the top five.
In the second main event, #4 Lynn Hardy charged through the field for the win, again battling a competitive #01 Michael Hale. The two championed racers drove hard; a caution in lap thirty-five brought the field together for a side-by side restart. With fifteen laps to go, Hale went inside and Hardy went outside, surging ahead for the win. Hale came in a close second, #84 Mark Ith Jr. came in third, #79 Jeffrey Webster came in fourth and #50 Roger Wilson came in fifth.
Tonight's winners included #50 Roger Wilson (Maverik Modifieds A Main,) #4 Lynn Hardy(Maverik Modifieds B Main,) #95 Greg Young (Super Stocks,) #09 Cory Hutchings (Figure-8 Cars,) and #3 Tracy Rider (Mini Cups.)
ASA Racing will continue for the America First Credit Union Super Oval on Monday May 28 with the Young Chevrolet Military Appreciation Night featuring Winged Sprints, Focus Midgets, Hornets, Figure-8 Cars and HR Equipment Figure-8 Trains. Military personnel and veterans will receive free spectator admission with valid id at the ticket booth; accompanying family members will receive half-price admission.
Rocky Mountain Raceways Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 28 is part of the Northwest Winged Sprint's Speed Week. The series will include racers from western Canada, Idaho and Utah. The Speed Week will commence at Magic Valley Speedway, in Twin Falls, Idaho on Saturday May 26 and culminate at Meridian Speedway in Boise, Idaho on Wednesday, May 30 and Friday-Saturday, June 1-2.
The Northwest Winged Sprint series will draw large car counts that will challenge racers and delight fans. The Winged Sprints are the fastest race cars to hit the America First Credit Union Super Oval; traveling at speeds of more than 110 miles per hour.
