MIDWAY — Utah is home to some of the greatest outdoor destinations in the west, and today, KSL visits scenic Heber Valley, looking for things to do.
The Homestead
The Homestead began after Park City miners discovered the natural hot pots nearby, turning Midway into a destination to relax and soak sore joints. The Homestead Resort has dining, a golf course, swimming, and of course, the crater's hot pots.
The crater is a natural therapeutic mineral springs water, and it's 60 feet deep. You can scuba dive, snorkel, or you can just soak in it.
More activities are nearby — Swiss Days and rodeos in the summer draw people from all over the state and families can ride the trains of Heber Valley Railroad.
People staying at the Homestead should be aware: there is a ghost there, says marketing director Tonya Hoopes. Nobody has seen her, but Fanny, the ghost, has been known to flick lights on and off and move things in the 126-year-old resort.
Mountain bike trails
Just past Midway, Park City has a new attraction: official International Mountain Biking Association gold-level trails. The certification is the highest status as a mountain biking destination.
The city received the award for its diverse trails, bike parks and downhill racing trails, as well as the convenient chair lifts that get bikers back to the tops of hills. The diversity means that there is something for each biker in the family.
