(KSL News) The Senate has authorized $1 million to study safer retreat mining techniques. This comes after six miners and three rescuers were killed in cave-ins at the Crandall Canyon mine in August.
The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the University of Utah and West Virginia University will look at the safety of retreat mining in mines 1,500 feet deep.
The study also will look at ways to improve technology for retreat mines.
