SALT LAKE CITY — Former Utah House Speaker Dave Clark, who recently lost his bid to become the Republican 2nd Congressional District nominee, has been appointed a Dixie State College trustee.

Gov. Gary Herbert said the appointment "was an easy decision" because of Clark's service to his southern Utah constituents as a lawmaker. "His wealth of experience in government and business will be invaluable as Dixie looks to the future," the governor said.

Clark, the southern Utah regional vice president for Zions Bank, said he understands "the significant educational and economic role Dixie plays in our state, and I believe it has a bright future as a four-year university and beyond."

He was defeated in his bid for Congress at the GOP state convention last month, losing to author and pilot Chris Stewart in the second round of delegate voting after accusations of backroom dealing flew back and forth among some of the candidates.

Utah GOP Chairman Thomas Wright is currently preparing a report on the 2nd District race at the convention.
