GOTHAM CITY - "The Dark Knight Rises" is likely the most anticipated film in a huge summer 2012 line up, and loyal fans have finally been given something to whet their appetite. The final trailer for the concluding chapter of the Dark Knight trilogy was released late Monday night, but it took some sleuthing on the part of Batman junkies to get the video released.

Director Christopher Nolan and his team are known for their clever and intricate viral campaigns. It appears Nolan wants to give his fans exactly what they want, but he's going to make them work for it.

It was announced last week that the final trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" would be released ahead of the new "Avengers" film scheduled to be released this week. Excited fans have been checking TDKR's official website in hopes of catching the trailer early. Monday, a dossier of an arrest warrant for the vigilante Batman was released on the site.

Inside the dossier were a list of charges against Batman including first degree murder, of former Gotham D.A. Harvey Dent, and three counts of kidnapping. There was also a wanted poster and a detailed account of the murder of Dent. As a side note the case number for Batman just happens to be TDKR07202012. See if you can figure that one out.

In the dossier there was also a note indicating that graffiti calling for the return of the vigilante had popped up all over the world and asked for the public to send in photos of these locations. Seven pages worth of locations were listed and diehard fans started snapping pictures and sending them in. As pictures were sent from these locales all over the world a new screen shot of the film would appear on the site. As more and more shots appeared a trailer slowly started to appear.

Now, that the last trailer has been released we actually have some more answers as to what to expect from this new film. It appears that Catwoman will be more of an ally than a foe. This is in line with the Batman comic book canon, but that was still unclear with earlier trailers. We also see that Joseph Gordon-Levitt has a larger role than we may have earlier assumed. Also, it appears that Bane is as mean and intimidating as we'd all hoped.

Nolan is notorious for playing his cards so close to the chest that he keeps them under a layer of Kevlar, but this trailer should be enough to keep the masses at bay until the film opens worldwide on July 20.
