SPANISH FORK — A 36-year-old woman was killed Friday and a 2-year-old boy was in critical condition after a multiple-vehicle accident on State Road 89, according to officials.

The accident occurred at 6:25 p.m. at mile marker 305, near the community of Birdseye. Another woman, 48, was transported to a hospital by ambulance in poor condition.

The Utah Highway Patrol reported that the 36-year-old woman was driving northbound in a Mazda 3 when she drifted off the side of the road and over-corrected into the southbound lanes. The Mazda clipped a Ford Taurus and began spinning before being rear-ended by a Chevy truck, driven by the other woman.

Both the Mazda and Chevy left the road and rolled, landing on their tops. The Mazda's driver was partially ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. The 2-year-old boy riding with her was transported to Primary Children's Hospital by helicopter.

State Road 89 was temporarily closed, but has since been reopened.
