SALT LAKE CITY — A month out of winter and two months before summer, leisure traveling right now is as cheap and stress-free as it gets all year.

Travel agencies say destinations are ready with some bargains.

"Places that are seeing a nice little slowdown as we head to summer include the Caribbean and Mexico, the Gulf Coast and Florida, the Southwest," noted Gabe Saglie of TravelZoo.

Saglie said that because it is not the usual time for vacation travel there are a lot of vacancies.

"That's incentive enough for a lot of these vacation companies and resorts on the ground to offer some of the best pricing of the year," he added.

Cruises, which are always a better bargain this time of year, are especially so this year in light of several cruise ship mishaps. Travel agencies are even offering free transportation to the port.

"A lot of these vacation company providers are putting out packages that are inclusive of airfares, in some cases, actually waiving airfares altogether just to get people out there," Saglie said.

If you do have to pay for a flight, book late Tuesday into early Wednesday and actually fly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Saturdays for the cheapest fares.

Finally, consider getting to a destination by train or bus, and that bundling reservations is about the best way to save money while traveling.
